The impact of your support
Your donation today – big or small – will fuel the Wildlife Queensland Glider Network’s hands-on, community-led conservation work.
Mahogany glider work
Vital on-ground programs have been carried out to connect remaining fragmented mahogany glider habitats, allowing animals to move between them and helping maintain viable populations of the species. The work has included detailed vegetation and priority corridor mapping, revegetation and native planting, camera-monitored glide poles and glider pole crossings, wildlife-friendly fencing and den box studies.
Understanding greater glider behaviour, habitat and movement
Wildlife Queensland has been hard at work on a critical greater glider project, focusing on spatial ecology, denning habits and preferred feed trees. Gliders have been fitted with radio-tracking collars to learn about their movements, home range, denning locations and diet. The work has also allowed a detailed study of microhabitats, so nest boxes can be placed where they will be used, installed by expert tree-climbers and ecologists.
Yellow-bellied glider audio surveys
Wildlife Queensland’s Yellow-bellied Glider Project team has had remarkable success finding colonies by using AudioMoth acoustic monitors to record the species’ calls. The team identified five separate colonies, including movement corridors from den trees to feed trees, within the suburb of Greenbank in Logan. Most of these colonies are on private land, which shows how important the community is to the conservation of our native species.
More about our work: the Queensland Glider Network.
“Protecting gliders starts with understanding what they need to survive. Our fieldwork helps us identify the habitat they depend on, and monitor how they use tree hollows and nest boxes. With the help of our supporters, we can use that knowledge to protect the places that matter most and give threatened gliders a safer future.”
